BIT Project – Business and Information Technologies
The main goal of the BIT project, led by the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) and the Humboldt University Berlin, is to study the impact of new online information and communication technologies on business practices and business structure worldwide. The study is based on the annually conducted survey among CIOs. The survey encompasses such technologies as RFID and Collaboration Systems and therefore is useful in understanding the adoption and use of the respective technologies in Germany and in international comparison.

Das Eurodata Council ist eine in Den Haag gegründete Stiftung für die Förderung der Technologien für die automatische Datenerfassung, Standardisierung derselben und sektorübergreifender Anwendung. Dazu ist der Eurodata Council in den entsprechenden Gremien von DIN (NI 043-01-31) und ISO (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 31, ISO JWG TC 104/122) vertreten und nimmt dort die Interessen der angeschlossenen Firmen und Verbände war. Das
Eurodata Council arbeitet in Liaison mit anderen Institutionen und Schlüsselverbänden eng zusammen.
Schwerpunkte der Arbeit sind die Normierung der Datenstrukturen für Barcode und RFID und deren Umsetzung in die Anwenderrichtlinien der Verbände. Dies tangiert auch den Konsumbereich, dazu wird auf Interoperabilität zwischen Industrie, Transport und Konsum
geachtet.

GS1 Germany plays an active role in standardizing cross-industry business processes as a service and competence centre for German industry. Their goals are process optimization and the improvement of the flow of data and goods along the whole supply chain. GS1 Germany offers practical support for the implementation of standards; therefore, they use their core competences in Auto-ID, EDI/eCommerce, Supply Chain Management and Category Management to achieve this. As well as these, the increasing importance of RFID and the EPC in open applications call for standards. Therefore within GS1, EPCglobal was founded to pool and further develop all aspects of RFID.

Lebanese American University (LAU)
The Lebanese American University has 6000 students in two campuses in Lebanon. The cooperation with LAU will be conducted mainly with their computer science department. LAU will provide insight into organizations and value chains in the MENA region by conducting case studies on the introduction of RFID and the potential for collaboration there. In return, they will receive technical knowledge and assistance in conducting these case studies through workshops and academic exchange of students and researchers.

metraTec RFID Solutions is a producer of RFID hardware and customer specific electronics in the frequency ranges HF, UHF and 2.4 GHz. noFilis Ltd.
noFilis addresses the challenges of inter-organizational RFID applications with CrossTalk. CrossTalk is software that delivers seamless integration of RFID and sensor based data to support real-time business processes. This enterprise device management system monitors RFID gates, readers and other auto ID devices. Additionally, Crosstalk enables the integration of RFID data into business applications.
For the duration of the project, noFilis has made CrossTalk available for the purposes of internal testing and laboratory evaluation without a license fee.
NordicID GmbH
NordicID produces RFID readers, particularly of the UHF spectrum. Using the hardware of NordicID enables us to get a better understanding of RFID data capturing on the device layer. Hardware tests are essential to derive implications on higher layers in the IT system. The properties of RFID hardware directly impact the planning and implementations of event management systems for inter organizational data exchange.

servtag was founded 2007 in Berlin. Our company developed a unique service framework based on Near Field Communication and 2D Barcodes, mobile phones and web services. The database research group of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences of the University of Genova, Italy, (GOADB Group), is active in several research areas, including intelligent information systems, spatial and geographic databases, XML and Web databases, knowledge management, indexing techniques, and access control.
In the context of knowledge management, it has recently designed and developed PSYCHO, a Prototype System for Pattern Management. The main characteristic of PSYCHO is the ability to represent, query and update heterogeneous patterns in a homogeneous way. In particular, it provides several functionalities for synchronizing patterns with data from which they have been extracted. The group is also interested in providing interoperable solutions for pattern management.

MW Consulting was created to transfer the founder’s long experience in logistics and knowledge about RFID technology to a broad spectrum of customers. This knowledge is going to be used in the research work of the Ko-RFID project.
