RFID-based logistics events tracking system (openPR)
openPR, 27.02.2007
(openPR) - Ko-RFID is a research project sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. Generally speaking, the project covers RFID and collaboration, and the impact of the former on the latter within the supply chain. The project is divided into 9 sub-projects, each approaching the main research questions from a different angle.
Sub-project 7 deals with designing and implementing an RFID-based logistics events tracking system. The project will start in December 2007 and run until the end of the Ko-RFID project. It is coordinated by TU-Berlin, with Gerry Weber Int. AG, DaimlerChrysler Research, and the logistics department of the Gustav Wellmann AG as industry partners and HU-Berlin as a research institute.
Sub-project 7 starts with a requirements analysis for the system, followed by designing and realizing a prototypical implementation. This will be followed by validating the results, demonstrating the system with an industry and finally transferring it to the industry.
Some of the questions that we plan to answer include: Is this system a complement or a partial replacement of existing supply chain management software? Where is such a system located on the network? And how is information exchanged between this system and others.
At HU-Berlin, we are interested in the possibilities of such a system in terms of streamlining collaboration, and simplifying, automating and coordinating event-tracking and event-notification.
